Ok, I am going to share something with you that I haven’t shown anyone else. Ever. But, no judging, ok?
That’s right. One thousand six hundred and forty two emails in my inbox. I cringe just looking at it. After speaking with Raphael Aquino-Jose, the resident Hotmail expert, I learned that I am a piler. Did you know that 57% of emails stay in the inbox of a piler forever? And that 3/4 of all pilers simply use the search feature to find an important email instead of filing it away?
That’s me. 100%. So, how can Hotmail help?
The one-click filter feature will allow me to filter out messages from certain senders like Facebook and Twitter…..say bye bye to all those notifications in one sweep! I’ve pared down my inbox but still can’t find an important photo. What now? Use the Quick Views feature on the left sidebar and select “Photos.” Instantly, a list of emails with attached photos appear allowing you to quickly find what you need. Too many newsletters? Create a Hotmail alias and have any emails coming from your subscriptions sorted into a specific folder. Your information is now kept safe, sorted and out of your inbox.
I absolutely love the features of Hotmail and I think this tool will be of great use when trying to organize my crazy blogging life. To be honest, I didn’t have a Hotmail account before the phone call with Raphael and was quite happy with my three (yes, three) Gmail accounts. But the good news is that you can sync your current email accounts to Hotmail in order to start organizing right away. Emails from each synced account can even be color coded to organize further.

I have since signed up for Hotmail and I am happily organizing my emails as we speak. I am hoping to get my inbox back under control….I should have control of something, right? What’s your inbox like? Are you a piler, a filer or a deleter? Come on, I know some other pilers are out there!
Lol..I must be a bad one-I have 12005 emails in my inbox.I just never seem to get to them all.
You would love the “sweep” feature in hotmail, then!
I try desperately to keep up with my emails but when you have only 45 minutes to 2 hours at best to go through them all and then read them, then file some and respond to some,,,,well I just can’t keep up with it all. What I do is use my “find” button to search for certain topics and this doesn’t always work. I love to enter the giveaways but many only give you 48 hours to respond and in fact it might take me 4 or 5 days to actually find the email unless they put the word “won” “winner” “congrats” “congratulations” in the subject line. This is because I catch up on the weekends when I have more time to go threw all the emails that I didn’t get a chance to look at during the work week. I get between 200 to 400 emails a day. During the week I’m lucky to look at 100 a night. That means by the weekend I some times have 1000 or so emails to catch up on. Currently 634 behind. It’s not because I don’t think the email is important when I don’t respond it is because I just didn’t have enough time to find it. I wish all bloggers would notify winners by notifying them in the subject because then I wouldn’t miss out on a wonderful win. I actually look at every email and I like reading blog post as much as entering the giveaways so instead of just clicking delete over and over I read a lot of them. I don’t comment as much as I read them but because I actually stop and read the post I don’t have time to go through all my email. Then 4 days later I find an email from a blogger that I follow stating in the email that I was chosen by Random.org please respond with in 48hrs. The subject line just said the blog title of the item I won so when I used my “find” button to search my emails it didn’t come up. I would love to be able to learn more about hotmail email and how it works but I have to work so I won’t be able to join at twitter 🙁 Do you know of any other way to learn more on how it works such as maybe a video that hotmail has created for new users?
Can you say like daughter like either. I am my daughter’s mom! I currently have 1965 emails in my inbox. Oh well, life goes on!
