This post is brought to you by ConAgra Foods and The Motherhood, and I’ve been compensated for my time. However, all opinions are my own.”
Two weeks ago, the school bell rang for the last time this year. Here in Southeast Louisiana, school is officially out for summer! My kids left that last day ready for swimming, camp, vacations and plenty of fun. But what about the 21 million kids nationwide that are on free or reduced school lunch programs? Are they excited about summer or worried about where their meals will come from if not at school?
In Louisiana, the child food insecurity rate is 23.1%. It breaks my heart to think of anyone, let alone a child, being hungry during a time that should be filled with laughter. So, I am happy to do my part to help spread the word about ConAgra Foods Hunger-Free Summer. For 20 years, ConAgra Foods has focused on supporting organizations that bring innovative thinking and solutions to the table – ensuring these programs have the funding needed to thrive and provide nourishment to children in need. Through “Hunger-Free Summer grants,” food banks throughout the country use funds to overcome barriers. This year, 29 food banks in 20 states will receive grants to support their summer programs ranging from $20,000-$50,000 each.
Sad statistics for our children. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
I love what Second Harvest Food Bank does for Louisiana. I’m so glad to hear that CograFoods is doing so much for our area & others as well. Kudos them!!
Working in public education, I can attest to the importance of this. It breaks my heart to know how many children go to school (and bed) hungry. What fantastic work they are doing to help.
It is a shame that any child goes hungry. It is really unacceptable that in five children go hungry here in the U.S. Thank you for this attention grabbing post. Everyone needs to better understand this problem and start doing something about it.
I love what the the Second Harvesters does to help children in the area be fed not only during the summer but all year round. I know from my visit with them last month they really need volunteers to help prepare meals for the children in summer camps all over the area. They also need help sorting foods to go to various food banks and are about 1 million pounds below their comfort level. I love seeing big companies like like this step up and help!
