Last night, we were gifted four tickets to attend the preview party for the premiere of Audubon Zoo Lights and we were certainly not disappointed! The zoo we have visited so many times as kids and then with our own kids was transformed into a twinkling safari and we were honored to be one of the first to see it.
The Audubon Zoo has ample parking so there was absolutely no hassle getting to the event. Walking through the gates, we were greeted with carolers and many opportunities to snap a picture with elves, ballerinas and even a Christmas tree on stilts! The first stop was Polar Pics to see Santa and take a quick family pic. Printed pics can be purchased in the Marketplace on your way out.
Walking past the iconic elephant fountain glowing in many colors, we headed through the food court with both indoor and outdoor seating where you can purchase lots of delicious food including hot chocolate and even an espresso. Of course, we did not miss the opportunity to get some Roman Candy!
With full bellies, we walked toward the lights featuring tons of animal scenes lighting up the night. You know you’re in Louisiana when you see an alligator and a pelican lighting up the bayou! But, I think our favorites were the beautiful peacock and the tall giraffe.
The New Orleans theme continued down Peppermint Path with glowing sno-balls (not the actual snow kind)! There are a ton of fun photo opps in this section that the kids will love. There are also lots of kids activities including writing letters for patients at Children’s Hospital, creating your own light display on a giant Lite Brite, and taking pics on a giant streetcar.
What sets Audubon Zoo Lights apart is that there were actual animal encounters throughout the park. We got to see and learn about owls, birds, guinea pigs, rabbits, armadillos and more!
My family had a wonderful time experiencing Audubon Zoo Lights. We would highly recommend a visit to celebrate the holiday season! Audubon Zoo Lights will be open select nights from November 23 – December 30 at 5:30pm – 9:30pm (last entry at 9:00pm). Tickets are $10 for Audubon Zoo Members and $15 for General Admission (kids 2 and under are free). Get your tickets here to start your holiday season off right!
