My oldest child is 8 years old, and I cannot belive how far baby products have come since his birth. One of the products we relied on countless times to keep him happy was the swing. I can’t count the number of times the swing saved dinner at our house. It helped me have two hands available to get the job done while he swung to his heart’s content. So, I am thrilled to share the swing evolution with the Cradle and Sway Swing from Bright Start’s InGenuity Collection. This collection offers many options – the full size swing, a portable swing, play yard, and bouncer.
From the website: The InGenuity™ Collection combines the latest innovations in technology with on-trend styling and plush fabrics to create the most soothing and attractive product offering possible. Each product is designed with unique technologies to provide parents the features that make life with baby even more enjoyable. From a bouncer that bounces by itself, to a swing that runs on one set of batteries for babies entire first year, this collection of innovative gear products raises the bar on feature and fashion.
The first thing I noticed about the swing is how the soft, neutral colors don’t clash with the rest of the house! Doesn’t it seem like baby equipment not only takes over, but multiplies while you are asleep? The muted tones on this swing won’t be screaming at you from the next room! The Cradle and Sway had simple, step-by-step directions that were easy to follow, even for this Mom. I had it fully assembled in less than an hour. I really love the toy anchors on the removeable tray and the choice of melodies or nature sounds to soothe or stimulate Baby while he or she is swinging.
Even better: the cushioned seat swivels so Baby can sway back and forth or side to side. Of course, the seat cover is removeable and machine washable to keep it fresh and clean, and the Cradle and Sway offers 2 times the battery life of comprable swings. This was good news, as the only thing I would change about the swing would be that it had a plug-in adapter other than batteries….but with batteries that last that long, I don’t mind! While the little one this swing is intended for hasn’t made her debut yet, I am certain she’ll be happily swinging as soon as she’s home! The Cradle and Sway can safely be used for infants up to 25 pounds. More features of the Cradle and Sway include:
-
Tru-Speed Technology maintains 6 swing speeds even with baby’s growth.
-
Whisper-quiet technology
-
Comfort recline seat with 2 positions for Baby’s comfort
-
Swing timer has 3 settings: 30, 45, or 60 minutes
-
Headrest and Cushioned Bolster system for ultimate comfort
-
5 point harness to keep Baby safely in swing
I would highly recommend the Cradle and Sway Swing to any new Mom! I am thoroughly impressed with so many of the swing’s features! Thank you, Bright Start!
To purchase the Ingenuity line, check out the product locator. This swing is currently listed at Amazon.com for $129.99. Now for the BEST news! One of our readers will get to choose ANY product from Bright Start’s Ingenuity Line! Choose from the swing featured here, the automatic bouncer, the portable swing or the playard.

Best advice: sleep when baby sleeps
Worst advice: start supplementing formula
aliasblogger at yahoo.com
I think the best piece of advice is the honesty of “look your days of sleeping in are over”. They truly are. My son has an internal alarm clock that wakes his lil stinker butt up every am at 6:30. The bright side, atleast I don’t have to ever worry about being late to somewhere! 🙂

Well I am not a Mommy, but I am a Auntie, and a home daycare provider..
Best piece of advice I have ever given.. is call Auntie she will take the wee one so you can sleep.
Worst piece of advice I ever gave was to my SIL @lovemy2doggies She was expecting and we were out at yard sales.. she kept finding all of these little teeny newborn outfits.. I kept saying.. oh no don’t buy those your baby will be much bigger than that, no small babies in our family. My nephew had weighted 9lbs 3oz.. niece had weighed 10 lbs.. I think the smallest to that point was 8lbs 6oz… So she passes on the newborn goes for the bigger stuff.. then gives birth to my beautiful niece 7 weeks early at a hefty… 3lbs. 5 ounces.. Yeah I haven’t lived that down. We had to dress her in Cabbage Patch clothes because 21 years ago you couldn’t walk into most stores and buy preemie clothes..
Thanks.. I hope I win I have a wee daycare babe who could use this/….. I could use this for him.

my best peice of advice i was given. with my first child was to nap when they did. It helped so much since my daughter woke up 5 times a night for the first 4 months.
“Sleep when they sleep” (they meaning my twins)

See, I am the mommy of that hefty 3 pounder with NO clothes that even came close to fitting. I think she was close to 4-6 months old before she could wear the clothes that we bought while we were hitting the yard sales.

The best advice was to sleep when the baby sleeps. I wish I had taken it! My oldest didn’t sleep through the night until he was 2! That swing looks very similiar to the papasan swing my kids LOVED>
The best advice I ever received was that the housework would always be there, but the kids wouldn’t because they grow so fast.
smchester at gmail dot com
My worst advice that I was given is that it would be easier with 2 kids…that the first would calm down and be happy to have a sibling…if anything my oldest has gotten more hyper and doesn’t listen anymore lol
The worst advice or criticism I got was from my own mother. She said I held my babies too much and that I would spoil them. I did not grow up in a loving environment and I don’t plan to keep that cycle going. I hold my boys and love and kiss them all the time.

The best advice I have gotten was use music to calm my babies. They loved the gentle classical music even though I hated it.
The best advise was “it want be like this for long,” my mom said. My first on an apena monitor and had terrible acid reflux, no sleep. Now he is 3 and I have another baby without the complication of the first. “It goes by fast” oh she told me that too. I guess mom knows what she was talking about.

I was given advice by my mother in law regarding when the baby cries. I can’t decide if it is good or bad advice. I do not think it is good advice, but just my opinion and think she is a little old school. She said from the beginning, let baby girl cry. Dont run to her immediately, don’t scoop her up right away because it will come back and bite you. I feel that when she is a newborn, if she does not learn that someone is there all the time, she may feel uncared for. Needless to say, regardless if what she says is true or not, I will be scooping up baby girl.

The worst piece of advice I have been given is I was told by a senior lady that my clothes were too tight and I was restricting the baby! Drives me crazy the top I was wearing was actually quite loose and not fitted at all!
when my son had colic the best piece of advice was gripe water, someone told me about it and I was at the “try anything” point. it worked really well!
The best advice was when my mom told me “let them be kids! They grow up too fast.”

The best piece of advice I got was to stop using such harsh chemicals while cleaning — common products can seep through your skin and get in your bloodstream, which is then carried to the baby via breast milk.

The worst advice we got was to expect the worst year of life because of the pain of delivery, lack of sleep, constant care of the baby, etc. This has been the most joyous year of our life and now we are expecting another one !

My first child was colicky and my mother told me about oil of peppermint to sooth her–it worked!

It is so hard to recall just one piece of advice that I have loved. But I had a friend who encouraged me to let my little one cry it out when we were having difficulties getting him to go t bed at night. He was about 11 months old. I always thought CIO seemed cruel. after four nights we had no more sleep issues at bedtime it was great.

It was not about “becoming a mother”, but ended up being the best advice I ever got. My daughter had severe colic. I took her to doctor after doctor and none could help my poor baby. Finally, a man in the doc’s waiting room asked, “Have you tried goat’s milk?” I bought some that day and within 24 hours my baby’s colic disappeared!
Thank you.:-)
Best advice is to sleep whenever you can and always accept help with a newborn!

Since I got pregnant literally the second I got off my BC, I think my OB/GYNE had the best advice… she jokingly said to me, “Well geeze, looks like I’ll be delivering the baby and giving you the highest dose of BC I can find.” Then we (her, my hubby and myself) all laughed, but really… I’m going to make sure I get some good BC. Lol!
The best advice I was given was by a P.A. on one of my first doctor visits when I took my brand new baby in….he said to just take everyone’s advice (including doctors) with a grain of salt and just got with my Mommy gut…because at the end of the day I was the Mommy.

The best piece of advice I was given was to follow my motherly instincts and not to listen to others or count on books for advice. Before having my 1st child I read so many books, but after he was born I quickly realized that advice was very true. Each child is different and no book can always account for those differences!
The worst piece of advice or, at least the biggest lie i was told, was to give birth naturally because it didn’t hurt. haha! 🙂 They could have told me how badly it hurt just to prepare me, right??

“Sleep when the baby sleeps.” This is both the best and the worst advice. For Baby #1 – great advice! For baby 2, 3, and (just found out!) 4… it doesn’t work so much. You can’t sleep when the baby sleeps when you have other little ones up and running around!
I subscribe.
Worst advice I’ve ever received. “You shouldn’t breastfeed, because if you do, no one else will be able to bond with the baby”
Best advice — Sleep when the baby sleeps (Though that only worked when it was just 1 baby!)

My grandmother sent me a really cute poem about keeping my time with my baby a priority, because while housework can wait, “babies don’t keep”. I’ve never regretted spending every minute I could with her.
My Ex mother in law insisted that I had to Breast feed to be a good mother. I didn’t breast feed just for the mere fact she told me I had to.

Worst advice – to just relax after dealing with infertility. Relaxing isn’t going to help us get a baby, doctors are.

Enjoy every second of their time as a baby! Soak up all the long nights and hissy fits because before you turn around twice, they will be grown. That is the best advice I’ve received about being a mother, and it came from my mom. 🙂
Thanks so much!

The best advice I got was not to get too hung up on milestones. I was really worried when my son wouldn’t roll over by 4 months but he just wasn’t interested in rolling, eventually he did and everything’s fine. It really is true that every kid grows at their own pace.

The worst piece of advice given to me was NOT to deliver with a midwife! I know they aren’t for everyone, but I’m glad I made the best decision for me!
My aunt in law (I guess that is what you would call her) told me to blow cigarrette smoke in my baby’s ear when she had an ear infection. WHAT? I guess I was supposed to start smoking and then purposely blow it into my child’s ear? CRAZY! I politely declined and took my daughter to the actual doctor with a degree in medicine.
