Walmart’s $40 New Year’s Dinner for 10: Giveaway

Just when you start to get the toys put away, your house re-organized and your home cleaned after the Holiday parties, you start to look at the credit card damage “Santa” created on your behalf.  As we look forward to the year 2010, one of my New Year Resolutions will be to save money for a family vacation this Summer.

Walmart has long been known for “rolling back prices,” but I was stunned to learn that I could create an entire New Year’s Day meal for 10 people under $40!   Check out Walmart’s Holiday Meals website to learn about recipes created by Food Network star Aarón Sánchez to go with Walmart’s affordable holiday menu to help families create a delicious Christmas or New Year’s celebration on a budget.

Want to create a party your friends and family won’t forget and save money, too?  Chef Aarón Sánchez has tips for turning a New Year’s party into an extra-special affair to remember. Using standard party ingredients, such as cocktail shrimp, a veggie platter, and crescent rolls, Chef Aarón created a party-ready fiesta spread for 10 for as low as $40! It includes:

Shrimp Tray (5 servings)
Vegetable Tray (10 servings)
Hillshire Farms Little Smokies (8 servings)
Pillsbury Crescent Rolls (6 servings)
Land O’Lakes Egg Nog (8 servings)
Red Velvet cake

Sound good?  Print the tips, tricks and recipes from Walmart’s Holiday Meals site and head to your local Walmart to stock up on everything you need to make your party a success!

  1. I’d love to try the Coquito (Puerto Rican style egg nog) — anything involving coconut AND coconut milk is delicious in my opinion! 🙂

  2. We’re making eggnog for New Year’s Eve and we’ll be using Arron’s recipe for Coquito (Puerto Rican style egg nog).

  3. I think the recipe for the Mexican shrimp cocktail sounds great!

Thank you for the chance to win!

  4. I think the Creamed Corn Gratin looks yummy. I’ve never had it and would love to try it! Thanks for the review and giveaway!

  5. Green Bean and Mushroom Picadillo, I love mushrooms. So many people either don’t try mushrooms or just flat out don’t like them, I’ve liked them for so long I can’t imagine how anybody doesn’t like them. But I don’t get much opportunity to prepare them because they aren’t a big hit with too many people.

  6. I’m a facebook fan of yours and I MIGHT be one of Halls but first of all, I don’t think you meant to include them, and second of all, I can’t figure out who they are without a link.

  7. Definitely her Blue Cheese-Stuffed Rolls recipe, don’t tell her but I am stealing her recipe and making them for the New Year’s Eve party 🙂

  10. The ham with mango jalapeno glaze sounds fabulous! I recently made a ham with mango orange glaze and it was the best tasting ham I remember having! This sounds like it would have the same fabulous mango, with a bit of added kick from the jalapeno!

  11. I have had Mexican Shrimp Cocktail in restaurants, now thanks to Aaron’s recipe I can make it at home! Great yummy giveaway, thanks!

  12. I tried the Creamy Smashed Potatoes yesterday! Excellent! Those were Melissa’a but next I’m trying Aaron’s Chipolte Mashed potatoes! Can you tell I’m a tater kind of gal? 😉

  16. That link didn’t work when I clicked on it. But, based on some other comments, I think I would love the Red Velvet Cake!

  17. The link did not work for me either but any recipe that will help me bake is a good recipe. I’m terrible at baking. It never turns out well at all. lol Thank you!

  18. The link to me to the regular Walmart site, but I found a recipe link under GROCERY and found a yummy recipe for Cream Cheese Banana Pudding that looks sooooo good!

    Thanks
    Angie

  19. Ok the link isn’t working for me and I have went to Walmart.com and cannot find it so.. I do love Beef Stew so that would be great..

  20. The Easy Cream Cheese Banana Pudding would definitely be a recipe I’d love to try out (though the temptation to make it every day might be too much to handle!) Thanks for the giveaway!

  22. I didn’t see Aaron’s name on it, but the Apple-Maple Grilled Pork Chops sound good, except for the chili peppers. We’re not into spicy foods.

  23. There was no holiday part, but one of the other recipes i would like to try would be the Festive Salad with spinach.

  24. I can’t find the holiday section on Walmart.com, but I bet there were some good recipes there.

  25. Can no longer access Walmart’s Holiday Meals site for mandatory entry. Therefore, I accessed the recipes on the Walmart website & found a recipe for “Guac” That Rocks that would be ideal for parties. Thanks!

  26. The Holiday Recipe section is no longer on the site, but the recipe I want to try is the Harvest Vegetable Minestrone Soup! Great for this cold weather!

  27. The Holiday Menu Planner/Recipes are gone:( But, I did look around and they still have some great looking recipes there. One that looked extra yummy was Apple Tarts.

Could find a few good uses for this card… I am really craving guacamole:)

Thank you Walmart and Not So Blog.

  28. I don’t think that link is working anymore, but I do like the Rotisserie Chicken and Pesto Pizza in their recipe section.
