Disneynature’s Chimpanzee Released on Blu-ray/DVD {Giveaway}

With two young girls in my home, you can believe that we are immersed in all things Disney.  From princesses to fairies and Minnie Mouse to Toy Story, we are “Disney-fied” and our recent trip to Disney World only exaggerated their obsession.  So, I was thrilled when Chimpanzee was released in theaters!  However, from reading a few reviews of the movie I was unsure if it would be appropriate for my young girls so I decided to wait for the movie to be released on DVD.

And the day has come! Disneynature released Chimpanzee on Blu-ray Combo Pack, Digital and On-Demand viewing on August 21, 2012.  Chimpanzee is “an inspiring film that follows the True-Life Adventure of Oscar, a young chimpanzee whose curiosity and zest for life showcases the intelligence and ingenuity of some of the most extraordinary personalities in the animal kingdom.”  Check out the trailer:

After viewing the trailer, I was definitely intrigued by the photography captured in this movie as well as Oscar’s story but was worried it would be too “real” for my little ones.  I knew that the movie surrounds the death of Oscar’s mother and I wasn’t sure how my daughters would process that scene.  That being said, after watching the movie alone, I was incredibly impressed with how this story is told.  Chimpanzee does indeed focus on what life is like for these animals including foraging and fighting for tribal position but does not show violence.  While scenes can get frantic and it is apparent that violence is happening, Chimpanzee does not show any gore that would be inappropriate.  In fact, the overwhelming theme of the movie is triumph, love and just plain cuteness!

I absolutely loved Chimpanzee and do feel like my daughters can handle it.  Of course, every child is different, so I would suggest watching it first on your own.  Another advantage of purchasing the Blu-ray Combo Pack is the incredible bonus features.  The behind the scenes clips are even more amazing that the movie!  Check out one of the features here:

Disneynature: Chimpanzee can be purchased for just $22.72 on Amazon right now!  This would certainly make a great holiday gift!  And if you are super lucky, you can win one right here on Experimental Mommy!

This post is the opinion of the Experimental Mommy.  While I received this product to facilitate this review, all opinions remain 100% mine.

  1. I can’t wait to see Disney Natures, Chimpanzee, because I love the previous Disney Nature documentary series. And I know that Chimpanzee will be another great documentary by Disney! And will be fun and entertaining for the whole family as well as informative! Thanks for the chance. 🙂

  2. I really wanted to see this in the theater but with a 2 year old I never found the time! I saw Jane Goodall on The Daily Show and the interview made me really want to see this movie! I love documentaries!

  3. I can’t wait to see this movie because my whole family loves animals and I’m sure Disney will do a great job!

  4. My daughter was SO excited about this movie, typically we don’t take her to the theater because she has epilepsy and often she can’t handle a movie in just one sitting. But she wanted to see this one so badly (she loves all animals and we had read the book on how they made the “movie”) that I took her to the movies this summer when it was playing for $1. She LOVED it. So I would love to win because she hasn’t stopped talking about it, she tells everyone it was the best movie she’s seen. I know she’d love to see it again.

  5. My kids and I watched the previews during another movie and have been excited about it ever since. Thanks for the chance to win!

  8. I love Chimps! I have since I was a young kid. My kids hate to go to the zoo with me because I will stay at the chimp house forever!
