While my husband and I definitely encourage physical activity for our children, the summer in New Orleans can make outdoor fun next to impossible. When the temperatures rise, we bring the fun indoors and let the kids engage in imaginative play. With two daughters, most of the creativity centers around dance, art, princesses and kitchen fun….which doesn’t leave too much room for dinosaurs.
However, this weekend we decided to rent Dino Dan: Dino-Tracker-Ready, Set, Dino! from our local Redbox. Have you heard of Redbox? Too keep it simple, it’s well, a red box. Generally located outside of convenience stores or grocery stores like Walmart or CVS, Redbox offers hundreds of DVD or Blu-ray rentals for just $1! With over 30,000 kiosks located nationwide, there is bound to be one near you.
To be honest, I wasn’t so sure my princess would be up for a dinosaur movie, but to my surprise, she was captivated. Maybe because it was so different than what she usually watches or maybe because she has a scientific mind like her Mama? Either way, my youngest is a Dino Dan Fan! There are several episodes on this DVD with a run time of 2 hours, but our favorite episode is one where Dan races a T-Rex and a Spinosaurus to see who is a faster carnivore. We loved watching as Dan used his deductive reasoning skills to claim the winner before the race began.
Redbox made our escape from the heat both easy and educational! After 24 hours, we simply returned the DVD to any kiosk and started browsing for the next movie night!
